Lester Young – “The President” – didn’t just play the tenor saxophone. He invented cool. And no hat in jazz history carries more weight than his wide-brimmed, low-crowned pork pie. The one he made himself. The one now in the Smithsonian.
This is my rendition of Lester Young’s iconic pork pie — the first hat I ever made in my Iconic Hats Series, and the one that started it all. A year in the making. 100% rabbit fur felt body, wide flat brim with grosgrain binding, low rounded crown, and a wide grosgrain band with a flat bow sitting front and center – just like Prez wore.
The “Angel Eyes” hat is Sigil’s tribute to one of cinema’s most unforgettable villains, Angel Eyes from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Carefully crafted to capture his relentless precision, this piece is handmade from rich 100% rabbit fur felt and finished with a hand-wrapped grosgrain ribbon band. The “Gus” hat is Sigil’s tribute to the legendary hat worn by Augustus McCrae in Lonesome Dove. Faithfully recreated with careful attention to shape and proportion, this piece is handmade from rich rabbit fur felt and finished with an authentic crocodile band.
